Welcome to the Grey Area

Dana Cain's Grey Area series includes novels, novellas, short stories and songs set in the vast area of space explored by grey aliens from the Zeta Reticuli star system.

Grey Area fiction is typically set aboard the GSS Rhapsody, flagship of the Grey Committee's Human Studies Cruise Line. Most human abductees are catch-and-release, but some are kept onboard for months, touring the galaxy, enjoying the cruise ship style amenities and filling out consent forms in triplicate.

Cain has studied alien abduction lore for decades, and her Grey Area fiction reflects an enthusiastic amusement with the weirdness she continues to discover there. Many details (like the greys' love of strawberry ice cream) come from "actual eyewitness accounts." Ufologists will be sure to find some Easter eggs in these books, including a retelling of the famous 1947 Roswell crash - from the aliens' point of view.

Book 1:  Thanks for the Memory Wipes
When he falls into a forbidden relationship with a nerdy human abductee, an insecure alien must break the law to stop her from being sent back to Earth.

Roswell is the Human Relations Director aboard the GSS Rhapsody, a flying saucer run like a cruise ship for human abductees. Everyone knows grey aliens aren’t allowed to date human abductees. But that doesn’t stop Roswell and Gloria from falling in love, as much as he tries to resist.

Now Gloria must be returned to Earth with a memory wipe that will erase her memory of the alien she loves. The unlikely couple must fight the system, break the law and deal with temporal anomalies, an overzealous security chief, memory wipes, and potential timeline destruction to save their relationship – and the Earth.

Cain’s work has been compared to Douglas Adams and James Gunn in this book that reads like the magical hybrid child of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and The Love Boat.

Prequel: Bermuda Love Triangle
The Rhapsody's Captain Zenith must repel the advances of a lovesick Reptilian commander and his fleet to avoid signing a "Marriage and Surrender" agreement and becoming an accomplice to an Earth invasion.

Trouble erupts in the form of hologram serenades and ship-infecting bot crabs after the GSS Rhapsody discovers Atlanteans in the Bermuda Triangle.  With the space-faring cruise ship under attack from a catastrophic computer virus and an approaching fleet of misguided Reptilians, Captain Zenith is left without military backup to face her delusional suitor and save Earth from an invasion.

Can the crew devise a weapon in time?  And when will Zenith realize the real threat isn’t from the Reptilian Captain, but from the psychotic woman who is in love with him?

This prequel expands the backstories and personalities of major characters introduced in Thanks for the Memory Wipes, while also introducing exciting new villains in the Grey Area series. Set about a year before Roswell meets Gloria, it reveals much about his earlier life on the ship, as one friendship grows, another begins to nosedive, and he finds himself in a life-or-death struggle to save his mother.

STATUS: Finishing First Draft. Two songs recorded and available.
